Myofascial Release Therapy is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial (connective tissue) to eliminate pain and restore motion. Tight and painful muscles are slowly stretched, allowing the effects of injuries, scar tissue, aging, and over-used or atrophied muscles to finally relax and begin to heal.
Tight, restricted bodies will rehydrate, elongate and release with this kind of sustained-pressure technique, which helps to increase range of motion and decrease pain. The muscles of your body work together with the rest of your body in very complex ways that can easily be disrupted. A common occurrence that disrupts the normal and healthy functioning of your muscular and circulatory systems is the damage of the fascial tissue, which can be treated with myofascial release massage techniques.
Fascia plays a very important role in your health and vitality. Myofascia, or more commonly known as fascia or fascial tissue, is a thin layer of connective tissue that wraps around the muscles and bones of the body in order to help support it fully. If your body is not able to be supported with the help of your fascial tissue, you’ll definitely notice, but you might not notice immediately that it is because you might need to loosen the tension in your fascia. A myofascial release massage returns them back to normal, so that they can support the rest of your body. (Check out this fascinating video explaining fascia.)
Each myofascial release session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables us to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. Over a series of sessions, myofascial release will speed the healing process, creating comfort, improved range-of-motion, and pain-relief throughout the entire system.
Here are many of the common conditions treated with myofascial release:
- Back Pain
- Carpel-Tunne Syndrome
- Chronic Pain
- Disc Problems
- Muscle Stiffness
- Neck & Shoulder Pain
- Over-Used or Atrophied Muscles
- “Restless Leg” Syndrome
- Sciatic Pain/Sciatica
- Sports Injuries
