What types of Massages are Available?
The modalities we offer are varied – and pricing is by length of service. In addition, we now offer Myofascial Release Therapy – which like massages, is priced by length of service.

Where Will My Massage Session Take Place?
Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable quiet room. You will lay on a massage table especially designed for your comfort. Expect a tranquil and comfortable environment during your massage. There will be relaxing music playing, unless you request otherwise.

Your session will be conducted by Joanie Flanagan who has received proper training in a variety of techniques. Massage therapists are regulated by the state and our license number is visible on the “About” page.

Must I Be Completely Undressed?
Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort. You will always be properly draped during the session.

FAQ4_dreamstime_s_5862848Will the Massage Therapist Be Present When I Disrobe?
The therapist will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the massage table, and cover yourself with a clean set of linens and blanket. She will knock before re-entering. Once your massage therapy session is complete, she will leave the room so you may re-dress. She’ll wait outside the room for you and provide you with a glass of water.

Will I Be Covered During The Session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being massaged will be exposed. We also use warm towels on your feet and back. You will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session. Only the part of the body we are working on will be uncovered, ensuring that your modesty is respected throughout the massage.

Rock PhotoWhat Parts Of My Body Will Be Massaged?
You and the therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, neck, and shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).

Will Massage Oil or Cream Be Used?
A light oil or lotion may be used to permit your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oils and creams used should hydrate the skin and be readily absorbed.

What Will the Massage Feel Like?
It depends on the techniques used. Your session may start with broad flowing strokes that will help ease exterior muscle tension. As your body unwinds, pressure will gradually be increased to relax and relieve specific areas of muscular tension. Communicate with the therapist immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage is most effective when your body is not resisting and in a relaxed state.

What Should I Do During the Massage Session?
Make yourself comfortable. The therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask questions about massage in general or about the particular technique you are receiving.

If you have any other questions not listed here about the process of a massage, don’t hesitate to ask when setting up the appointment. We look forward to seeing you at Serenity Wellness!
